RYA Sailing Courses

We are currently only running RYA courses for group bookings (minimum 4 people). Dates are flexible to suit you - please call us to discuss your requirements.

Our RYA sailing courses are taught on our Reflex 38, based in Hamble, Hampshire. During your course you will sail all around the Solent, returning to Hamble at the end of your course. The Solent is a perfect learning ground, as it has complex tides and many creeks and harbours in which to practise navigation and, boat handling, as well as pleasant places to spend the night.

Our yachts are racer-cruisers, which means they are fast, responsive and really great fun to sail. To keep them light they are simple down below, with a mainly stripped-out open-plan interior. Unlike on many yachts, you will have your own berth rather than having to possibly share a double with a stranger. There is one double cabin available.

Day Skipper Theory

Understanding charts, how tides work, how to navigate and the rules of the road is absolutely essential if you are to be safe out on the water.

We usually run this course in Hamble in conjunction with the Day Skipper practical course. However, weekend or five-day courses can be arranged in London if there is sufficient demand. Accommodation is not provided.

Day Skipper Practical CourseLearn Navigation and Boat Handling SkillsDay Skipper

Day Skipper Practical

Learn navigation and boat-handling skills, and practise taking charge of a yacht in readiness for skippering yourself. This course can be be run from Monday to Friday, or, to save you taking unnecessary days off work, from Wednesday to Sunday. It can also be done as a three-day weekend. Candidates should have passed a Day Skipper Theory course, or have knowledge to an equivalent level; they must also have spent at least five days on board a yacht and sailed a minimum of 100 miles.

Day Skipper Combined Theory and Practical

Run together your theory and practical courses in one nine-day course. This course runs from Saturday morning to the following Sunday evening, and is the most time-efficient way of getting your qualification. The first four days are shorebased, and the following five on the yacht. Accommodation is not provided during the shorebased part of the course, but nearby B&B's can be recommended.
