INTENSIVE 13-WEEK
RYA YACHTMASTER OFFSHORE COURSE
We regret that we are not currently running a 13-week intensive course.
The course:
The 13-week RYA Yachtmaster Offshore course begins in the Solent, based around Hamble. A maximum of 10 people will be accepted on to the course.
You will start with an RYA Competent Crew course, during which you will be taught the basics of how to sail. You will then have a chance to do more sailing to consolidate what you have learnt.
The weekends during the UK phase of the course will be partially occupied with required one/two-day courses; a VHF radio course, First Aid, Sea Survival, and Diesel Engine maintenance. At least one weekend will be taken up with yacht maintenance.
You will soon move on to the RYA Day Skipper theory course, a five-day classroom course which introduces you to navigation, meteorology, and rules of the road.
The practical part of the Day Skipper course follows, when you get to put into practise the new skills you have learnt in the classroom. In addition, you begin to take control of yacht and crew, and start to learn boat handling in confined spaces.
The next progression is to advanced theory, where you will learn more about tides, electronics, weather and collision regulations.
Your practical sailing will mainly be on Reflex 38s, but we will also provide experience on a variety of boats, such as a Sigma 38 or an Elan 40.
During shore based courses accommodation is not provided; we will supply a list of local B&Bs.
Long passages:
To help build miles and experience, you will sail across the Channel, and down to the West Country. During these trips you will be practising skippering and navigation skills.
Racing:
You will have the opportunity to learn spinnaker skills, and race in both RORC offshore races, and Hamble Winter Series inshore races. |
